Check with the association, neighbors, sellers, so you don't get "stuck" with a costly bill upon moving in. Last, take the time to check with local building departments with regards to permits for the piece of property you are purchasing. Many homeowners are very handy when it comes to renovations, additions, etc. They do everything well, with the exception of applying for the necessary permits. As is the case everywhere, you need permits for numerous repairs etc. What's the big deal? When you close on a home, you become the owner of record, and any work improperly done become your responsibility.
